We were in gym class.
I wasn’t moving fast enough, so the teacher told me to run laps.
I hesitated.
My instinct was to stay quiet — like always.
But this time, I looked up and said:
“I have my period.”
The class went quiet.
The teacher paused.
And no one laughed.
In fact, a few girls looked... impressed.
And I realized something:
I didn’t embarrass myself.
I didn’t “overshare.”
I owned it. And it felt powerful.
Having your period isn’t a secret.
You should be able to talk about it —
just like you’d say, “I have a headache.”
Too many of us still feel awkward saying it out loud.
But we shouldn’t have to whisper about our bodies.
So say it when you need to:
“I’m not feeling great — I’m on my period.”
It’s normal.
It’s valid.
And it deserves respect.
